I was 15 and Jan was an apprentice hairdresser. It was Christmas Eve and I asked her if she could put a colour through my hair and to make it a very pretty champagne pink. When I came out from under the dryer she laughed and said 'Oh Vivienne it's gone wrong! Never mind it will only last a week!' It was bright lilac, pinky/mauve! On leaving the salon we happened to meet Mike and Bernie Winters who we're playing at the Pier Pavillion, who also happened to know Jan. After a quick catch up they turned to me and asked Jan who I was and how brave I was for having hair that colour - to which Jan burst out laughing. The laughter was always there.
